The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food offers an introductory course on farming as a profession featuring farmers Adam and Melissa Millsap of Urban Roots Farm. Adam and Melissa farm a 2-acre urban plot and work as agriculture consultants on various projects. Also joining them is speaker Cale Nicholson of Appleseeds. Cale has experience working on small farms around the country, including large non-profit farms. Cale currently works as the farm manager for Appleseeds, a small non-profit school-age learning garden. This course costs $10

The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food offers an introductory course on planning your sustainable farm business. With an emphasis on appropriate technology and small-scale production, join speakers Margo Hale of NCAT and farmer Destiny Schlenker of Blue Mountain Farm. Margo will discuss business planning and steps to finding funding. Destiny will share her story of writing a detailed business plan and securing traditional financing for her family farm business. The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food (CAFF) offers a course on funding your farm business. Speakers Brooke Anderson of CAFF and Corey Cornelious of NRCS will cover topics such as USDA funding, crowd funding, and loan readiness. This course costs $10.

The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food offers an introductory course on designing your farm layout. The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food (CAFF) offers a course on pack shed design and food safety. Speakers Jonathan McArthur and Cailin Irby of CAFF will discuss their experience farming for small and mid-scale production. Speakers will cover topics such as post-harvest handling design, wash and pack flow, and expectations for safe produce handling. This course costs $10.

2/7/2023         Crop Planning

The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food (CAFF) offers a course on crop planning led by speakers Sean Pessara of the Mindful Farmer and Heather Friedrich of CAFF. Farmer Sean Pessara has worked as a tool designer, greenhouse builder, and food hub consultant. Heather Friedrich has a master’s degree in Horticulture and is the director of CAFF. Speakers will cover topics such as botanical families, crop planning for profit, basic crop rotations and succession plantings, and crop planning to meet market needs. This course costs $10.

The Center for Arkansas Farms and Food (CAFF) offers a course on Lean Principles led by speaker Sean Pessara of the Mindful Farmer. Farmer Sean Pessara has worked as a tool designer, greenhouse builder, and food hub consultant. Sean will cover topics such as lean farming principles, tool selection, and farm planning.
